So, analyse the lineup for the Interprovincial at New Plymouth, says the boss.
Thanks very much.
The form for this is so mixed with horses dropping back from open handicaps against those competing in Rating 80 grade. A stern task but will give it my best shot.
If you can find an anchor this a great race for coupling up a few in the trifecta.
The track should not be as bad as for Opunake Cup Day but is still rated a heavy (10).
Te Toro Lass bolted in at Waipa but they were pretty ordinary behind her and she did have a claim. However, she is two from two here but has a wide draw and is well up in class. A trifecta hope.
Toughasim is hard to have on his effort when he finished 16 lengths behind Te Toro Lass here on Opunake Cup Day. Won at Counties but might find this class too good. Likes heavy footing and Chad Ormsby has come down to ride him.
Zorro's Star has been racing down south and as a three-win horse looks outclassed.
The Muffin Man is in great form was yet another winner here on Opunake Cup Day. Handy draw but a minor concern is the weight. He has to carry the full 56kg after claiming at his previous two.
I would not be backing him at anything less than 6-1 each-way. His overnight quote of 3-1 is a joke.
Chickilicious is yet another who races well here. Drawn well and will probably be good each-way value. Certainly should be in your trifectas.
What I think will win: Ourforeignminister is drawn well and has chased home a couple of fair sorts in Hurricane Mickey at Waipa and No Excuse Maggie at Te Rapa. If either of them were in this race they would be well backed. Looks a sound each-way bet and just might be that trifecta anchor.
Intransigent is a two-win horse and should struggle to match this lot. Has fair form and could fluke a place. Does have David Walsh in the saddle.
King Victor is a huge chance. He failed in the Taumarunui Gold Cup but this is several steps down. Shocking draw is offset by good track record. A must for Pick6s and a top each-way bet.
Beau Dane is another who adds to the form puzzle. Badly weighted but was a great effort in the Taumarunui Cup. Likes the mile and the track. Again, a trifecta must.
Cost Of Freedom the mount of Noel Harris deserves respect on that alone. Is an up-and-comer but this is a big test.
Alignadreams has won only two races and looks well out of her depth here.
Kalgoorlie Bomber was pretty ordinary against some moderate Riccarton company. Will be hard pressed here.
For a real roughie, Crocodile Canyon is worth a gold coin each-way. Fair run resuming and has Opie Bosson aboard. Again, value for the trifecta.
Crown Of Thorns has won his past two in the lower grades but has done little to suggest he could win against this company.
Local Stormin Norman is top form but again will find this class a bit rich. Maybe a rough place hope if she sneaks in.
Rumour Has It Now beat Keepereel at Otaki and I give the latter a bolter's place hope. Perhaps she, too, fits into that category.
Keepereel is not the easiest to follow but bobs up once in a while. Worth a sneaky place ticket.
Warrant showed good form at Riccarton but is out of his depth here and unlikely to get a run.
Midnight Van Damme is not likely to get a run and has no hope anyway, which also applies to Baltis.
Summary: Ourforeigminister looks a safe each-way bet in what is a tough race. King Victor, Chickilicious, Beau Dane, The Muffin Man, Cost Of Freedom and Toughasim are all worth some thought.
